Bio/Description

Ameet Morjaria joined the Managerial Economics & Decision Sciences faculty at Kellogg School of Management in 2015. He is a native of Tanzania and Kenya. Prior to joining Kellogg, he was a junior scholar of the prestigious Harvard Academy's Weatherhead Centre for International Affairs and a Giorgio Ruffolo Post-Doctoral fellow in the Sustainability Science Program at the Centre for International Development at the Harvard Kennedy School. Morjaria completed his PhD in economics from the London School of Economics. Morjaria is a research affiliate of BREAD, CEPR, and the IGC.

His research interests are in development economics, organizations, and political economy across several countries in Sub-Saharan Africa (Burundi, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, and Uganda). His current research focuses on understanding the role of commodity exchanges, the impact of FDI acquisitions on management and market efficiency, industrial policy in emerging markets, the impact of electoral conflict on firm operations, and the political economy of resource management in weak institutionalized economies. 

He has worked for the World Bank Group as a young professional in Afghanistan and Pakistan in the Energy & Infrastructure unit, as a management consultant at Kaiser Associates, and prior to graduate school work, on Structured Derivatives at Deutsche Bank in London.
