Celso Khosa, MD, PhD. is a Medical Doctor and holds a PhD degree in Medical Research-International Health. In 2012, he joined Instituto Nacional de Saúde as a researcher and leading the team that established the TB Research group at Centro de Investigação e Treino em Saúde da Polana Caniço; this group established two TB research units in Maputo City and Province.
In 2013 Dr. Khosa was accepted as part of the board of the Institutional Review Board of Instituto Nacional de Saúde. Concurrently, Dr. Khosa has been conducting epidemiological studies, clinical trials including HIV vaccines, TB and HIV therapeutics and operational research both in adult and pediatric population.
He started his PhD in Medical Research-International Health at Ludwig-Maximilians University, Munich, Germany looking at the Pulmonary Health in TB patients in September 2014. In 2018 Dr. Khosa was appointed as the Scientific director of Centro de Investigação e Treino em Saúde da Polana Caniço overseeing the scientific operations of the center with more than 20 ongoing projects from HIV vaccines, Tuberculosis, a health demographics surveillance system and other research studies.
He completed his PhD in 2019 with distinction and was promoted to Director at Centro de Investigação e Treino em Saúde da Polana Caniço in June 2020. Dr. Khosa is currently the Country Principal Investigator and Chief Investigator in several TB studies, including clinical trials researching new drugs in TB and HIV treatment. His main research interests include tuberculosis, HIV and Comorbidities associated with HIV.
