Dr. Chalachew Mebrahtu Asmleash was born in Shire (Tigray), Ethiopia, in 1986. He received a B.Sc. degree in Applied Chemistry from Arba Minch University, Arba Minch, Ethiopia, in 2008 and M.Sc. degree in Physical Chemistry from Haramaya University, Dire Dawa, Ethiopia, in 2013. After working as assistant lecturer/lecturer at Haramaya University from 2009 to 2014, he was admitted to SINCHEM (Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctoral Program) at the University of Messina (Italy) and RWTH Aachen University (Germany) where he was awarded his Ph.D. (double degree) in Chemistry and Engineering of Materials in 2018. During his Ph.D. study, he was awarded the Erasmus Mundus fellowship, one of the prestigious scholarships for an integrated international study program. From March 2018 onwards, he has been working as a postdoctoral researcher in the group of Prof. Regina Palkovits at RWTH Aachen University, Germany. His research focuses on the design of advanced catalysts to store renewable energy by converting CO2 to synthetic fuels and fine chemicals. He’s the (co-) author of more than 16 papers in international peer-reviewed journals in the field of applied catalysis and renewable energy storage. Besides, he’s also a member of the Global Society for Tigrean Scholars (GSTS) and chairperson of the Energy Systems thematic area since 2019 with a leading role in research for the overall advancement of the energy sector in Tigray region.
