Héritier Mesa is a PhD Researcher in Political and Social Sciences at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, affiliated with the Laboratoire d’Anthropologie des Mondes Contemporains. He received an Advanced Master of Globalization and Development at the Institute of Development Policy of the University of Antwerp, and a Master of Sciences in Social Development from the Ateneo de Manila University. His current research analyses the contemporary dynamics of the informal sector in Kinshasa, DRC, through the exploration of its heterogeneity and the social inequalities associated with it. As a Social Anthropologist, his research interests are on urban anthropology, ethnographic practices, social stratification and inequalities, informal economy, microfinance, social-entrepreneurship, globalization, gender, and identity dynamics. His current geographical focus is the DRC whereas his past research focused on South-East Asia. His publications include peer-reviewed articles on various subjects such as informal wage labor in the DRC, class and social positions in the informal economy, women’s empowerment and social microfinance in the Philippines, and social entrepreneurship and social transformation in the DRC.
