Kai Barron is currently a Research Fellow at the WZB Berlin Social Science Center. He is also a member of the Berlin School of Economics (BSE) and the Berlin Centre for Consumer Policies (BCCP). After completing his undergraduate studies in Economics and Mathematics at the University of Cape Town (UCT), Kai pursued his Masters and Doctoral studies in Economics at University College London (UCL), receiving his PhD in 2017. His research interests span the fields of experimental, behavioural and development economics, with a particular focus on understanding belief formation and the role that beliefs play in guiding behaviour. He is currently involved in several research projects that focus on topics of particular importance for South Africa, including a study that evaluates the impact of the nation-wide alcohol bans imposed in the country in 2020. Kai is also actively engaged in creating opportunities for young researchers to share their work. He has been a co-organizer of the early career behavioral economics (ECBE) conference since its inception in 2015, and is hoping to create a similar event that provides a platform for early career researchers in Africa and Europe to exchange ideas.
