Bio/Description

Dr. Katendi Changula is a lecturer in the Department of Paraclinical Studies, School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Zambia. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Diagnostic Veterinary Medicine from the University of Zambia, a Master of Science in Tropical Animal Health from the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Antwerp, Belgium and a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Zambia. Katendi is an avid researcher focusing on zoonotic diseases. She believes that the One Health approach is the key to fighting zoonotic diseases. She studies bat populations in Zambia in order to detect the pathogens they carry and determine the risk of spillover of these infections into human populations. She is also involved in the development of new diagnostic tests to detect zoonotic diseases like Ebola. In addition, she is working with the Zambia Ministry of Health in the detection and sequencing of SARS-CoV-2, as well as the laboratory diagnosis of suspected cases of Ebola in Zambia.
