Kathia Bahloul Zekkari has been a PhD student at Aix-Marseille School of Economics (AMSE) since 2017. Her research interests focus on macroeconomics, financial economics, and economic growth. She graduated from a business school in Algiers (Algeria) in 2012 and very quickly wanted to move into the world of research. She therefore applied to AMSE and started a research master's degree with a specialization in macroeconomics and development. She has now been working at the AMSE doctoral school for 4 years and is preparing for her doctorate in economics. She intends to defend her thesis in September 2021.
Her thesis deals with the links between the existence of bubbles, economic activity, and employment. In particular, she seeks to provide explanations for the fact that bubble episodes are generally characterized by growth in GDP per capita and employment. The thesis will consist of three papers that will constitute the three main chapters. The first chapter deals with the link between bubbles and endogenous labor supply in an exogenous growth model. This first paper is entitled “Asset Bubble and Endogenous Labor Supply: A Clarification” and is co-written with Thomas Seegmuller. It is published in Economics Letters. The second chapter examines the link between speculative bubbles and endogenous growth when labor supply is endogenous. Finally, the third chapter deals with the link between asset bubbles and human capital.
