Muhammed Afolabi is a clinical assistant professor at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine in the UK. He obtained a medical degree from the University of Ibadan, a master’s degree in public health from Obafemi Awolowo University, both in Nigeria, and a PhD from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine in the UK. He is also a fellow of the West African College of Physicians and National Postgraduate College of Nigeria in Family Medicine, as well as the UK Higher Education Academy.

Muhammed has worked extensively on the clinical vaccine trials related to the control and prevention of Ebola, HIV, and malaria in several African countries. He led the Ebola pediatric vaccine trials in Sierra Leone, whose findings contributed to the approval of the novel two-dose Ebola vaccine regimen (ZABDENO/MVABEA) by the European Medicines Agency.

Muhammed currently serves on several vaccines and immunizations committees, including The Strategic Advisory Group of Experts (SAGE) on Immunization Working Group on COVID-19 vaccines. Muhammed’s research interests also include bioethical issues shaping the conduct of clinical trials in vulnerable populations.
