Bio/Description

Professor Philip Alege hails from Osun State, Nigeria. He obtained his BSc in economics in 1983 and his MSc in econometrics in 1985 from Universite Libre de Bruxelles, Bruxelles. He obtained another MSc in industrial location and development in 1986 from Vrije Universiteit van Brussel, Bruxelles. He also received a PhD in economics from Covenant University, Ota, Nigeria, in 2008. He worked in several organizations within and outside of Nigeria in different capacities before joining Covenant University in 2003.  He is a consultant for national and international organizations, including the ECOWAS Commission and the African Development Bank (AfDB). 

He was an associate lecturer of econometrics in the Collaborative Postgraduate Programme (CPP) at the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria from 2014-2015. He has been a member of the Economic and Statistics Committee and the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry since August 2018. He was the head of the department of economics and development studies from 2013 to 2015. He was Dean of the College of Business and Social Sciences from September 2017 to August 2019. He is also a recipient of many awards and research grants. 

His research areas are  macroeconomic theory, research methods, international economics, econometric analysis, DSGE modeling, economic growth, and energy economics.  

He has written over 70 papers published in renowned journals. He has served as Editor-in-Chief and reviewer for  the Covenant Journal of Business and Social Sciences from 2014 to 2015.
