Bio/Description
Sophie Bava is a socio-anthropologist at IRD, AMU-LPED. She is a member of the board of directors of the Movida International Laboratory. Her research focuses on African migration and Muslim and Christian religious constructions between Mediterranean and sub-Saharan Africa. She proposes a religious anthropology of movement that focuses as much on the journeys of believers and the histories of religious institutions, as on the figures and objects of religious mobility (pilgrimages, studies, migration, religious networks, means of communication, circulation of religious articles...), while also re-questioning the place of the religious in societies crossed by migrants.
