Bio/Description

Tantely Razafimbelo is a soil scientist with expertise in soil environmental and agricultural functions. She obtained an MSc in agriculture in 2001 from the High School of Agronomy Sciences at the University of Antananarivo in Madagascar, a DEA in soil science in 2002 from the Institut National Agronomique Paris-Grignon (now part of the AgroParisTech in France), and a PhD in soil science in 2005 from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure Agronomique-Montpellier (now part of SupAgro in France). She conducted her post-doctoral studies at the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement from 2005-2006 in Madagascar. She was appointed as Lecturer Researcher at Laboratoire des RadioIsotopes at the University of Antananarivo in 2006. Currently, she is a full professor and director of the same institute, teaching soil science and its link to environment, agriculture, and climate change in different master’s and doctoral schools in Madagascar. She is also a member of the Bureau of 4P1000 Initiative as a representative of the Research and Education College. 

Her research activities focus on soil organic carbon dynamics according to different types of soil, practices, and climate and to understand the main process (physical, chemical, and biological) implicated for tropical soils. She is also focusing on soil carbon sequestration quantification according to different tropical conditions and working on the harmonization of the assessment methods for Africa within the CaSA network. 

She is currently participating in different projects in these thematics (SoCA project, Fy-Vary project, CIRCASA project, SeCuRE project) as PI, co-PI, or Task coordinator and supervising 4 ongoing PhD students.
