Théophile Azomahou is a professor of economics and Director of Training at the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC). His research resonates around development economics at the frontier of evidence-based policy, quantitative empirics, and economic theory. His expertise includes sustainable human development, environmental and natural resource economics, health economics, intergenerational mobility in Africa, impact evaluation, applied econometrics, and economic theory. He has also acquired first-hand operation experience of conducting effective policy dialogues and negotiations with multiple development actors.

Prior to joining AERC in February 2021, Professor Azomahou was an associate professor of economics at the University of Strasbourg  from 2001-2008, Chair of econometrics at the Ecole des Ponts ParisTech from 2005-2007, and senior research fellow at United Nations University (UNU) from 2008-2018.  At UNU, he led the research group on economic development, innovation, and governance and institutions. Théophile was a professor of development economics at the Maastricht University School of Business and Economics from  2010-2020, professor of economics at the University of Nancy from 2012-2015, and professor of economics at the University Clermont Auvergne, CNRS-CERDI from 2015-2021.

Professor Azomahou holds a PhD and a master’s degree in economics, both from the University of Strasbourg in France. He also received an executive education on `A Cutting Edge of Development Thinking' from Harvard Kennedy School in the USA.
